NEWS-KINECT SYNAPSE DUBSTEP APPLICATION

Kinect SYNAPSE Dubstep Application

Submitted by Jared on Tue, 2011/06/21

This right here folks, is awesome. An out of the box solution to all your dub-steppin' needs created by Ryan Challinor. If you're the musically inclined type and have been dying to try something like this out for a while, you're now invited to freely download his open source application SYNAPSE which allows you to control Ableton Live, Quartz Composer, Max/MSP, and any other application that can receive OSC events with the Kinect.

The application sends joint positions and hit events via OSC, and also sends the depth image into Quartz Composer. This allows you to use your whole body as an instrument.

Here's more from the developer:

It’s easy to install on anyone’s computer, it’s open source, and it gives you a user-friendly interface to control music and visuals in Ableton Live and Quartz Composer fully through Kinect input. More directly, it allows you to do things like play with a dubstep theremin while you have fire shooting out of your hands. I'd like to get it in the hands of talented musicians and artists so they can create awesome stuff, and show off the power of what Kinect can really do. Go to http://synapsekinect.tumblr.com to find more information about the project and download everything you need to run it on your own computer.
